If you’d like to have a healthy smile, and have worked hard for your pearly whites, you probably understand that there are steps you should take. For instance, you know that you should brush and floss your teeth to keep them healthy, but did you know there are a few other things you should do? For example, following a nutritious, balanced diet can actually offer a number of benefits.
Calcium is extremely important to the health of your teeth and gums as well as to the rest of the bones in your body. Foods that are high in calcium, like milk and cheese, can help protect your enamel, which is the outer layer of your teeth. These calcium-rich foods can protect your mouth and keep your teeth healthy. Conversely, acidic foods and drinks like soda and citrus fruits can actually wash away minerals in your teeth. Sadly, this will weaken your enamel.
Phosphorus is another important mineral. You see, this mineral is found in foods like chicken and other meats. Nuts, like peanuts, cashews, and almonds, also help your teeth because they are high in phosphorus and because they stimulate saliva production.
Following a balanced diet is also important to your little one’s oral health, but convincing your kids to eat healthy foods can be a struggle. However, there are healthy foods you may be able to convince your kids to eat. Try using food like low-fat yogurt with berries, juicy watermelon, vegetables with a dip, cheese and apples, and hummus with toasted pita triangles.
