April is Oral Cancer Awareness Month. Most people really don’t think about oral cancer very often, yet it is not a rare disease. Approximately 37,000 people in the US will be diagnosed with oral cancer every year. It kills one person every hour of every day, and over 100 new individuals will be diagnosed with it each day. The good news is that it can often be found early in its development, through a simple, painless, and quick screening. Remember, you are the most important factor in early detection.
Here at Dr. Sullivan’s Gilbert dental office, we believe in the benefits of early detection and recommend an oral cancer screening be done at least once a year. It’s a simple screening and can be done at your regular hygiene visit. If you haven’t had your screening, ask us about it at your next visit.
